INDIVIDUAL WORK
The story beneath the story
I'm glad you found your way here. If someone you trust pointed you in this direction, they probably had a sense that what you're looking for goes deeper than symptom management. You want to make sense of patterns that have followed you and experiences that shaped you in ways you're only beginning to name. If something here resonates, I hope you'll reach out.
Who finds their way here
The people I work with tend to be high-functioning in the ways the world can see, and quietly struggling in ways they haven't yet been able to articulate. Many have an inkling that their early experiences shaped them in ways worth examining. There may be family dynamics that keeps surfacing in their closest relationships, something that happened that has never quite been named, or a way of moving through the world that made sense in the past and no longer does.
They're not looking for someone to hand them a diagnosis and a prescription. They want to deeply understand what's going on, and they're hoping to find a psychiatrist who is genuinely curious about the same things they are.
I work with individuals of all ages and life stages. There is no upper or lower age limit, though I find that pre-adolescent patients often do best with a family approach. What matters most is orientation toward the work.
How I work
First, we slow down. Visits are always a full hour, scheduled at the frequency that makes sense for your life and your goals. Rather than moving quickly toward naming and fixing, we make space for your story, for what you've lived through, how it shaped you, and where the old patterns are still quietly running in the background.
Therapy is at the center of this work. Medication has a place too, but it's collaborative and considered. Medication can be used to reduce the noise enough to allow for deeper exploration rather than as a substitute for it. I take integrative health seriously, meaning I’ll look for things like a sleep pattern worth examining or a nutritional deficiency that's been quietly affecting your mood, but optimizing every variable of your biology isn't what I do. The relationship and the story come first, and everything else follows from there.
I see patients at my office in Seal Harbor on Mount Desert Island, with telehealth available for established patients as needed. Early in treatment we typically meet weekly or every two weeks. Over time the frequency is adjusted based on what makes sense for your care and your life.
If something here is landing for you, even if you're not yet sure what you're looking for, please reach out.
