INDIVIDUAL WORK
Psychotherapy and Psychiatric Care
Who finds their way here
The people I work with tend to be high-functioning in the ways the world can see, while struggling in ways they haven't yet been able to name. Many have a sense that their early experiences shaped them in ways they want to better understand. There may be family dynamics that keep surfacing in their closest relationships, something that happened that has never quite been named, or a way of moving through the world that made sense in the past and no longer does.
They want to deeply understand what's going on, and they're hoping to find a psychiatrist who is genuinely curious about the same things they are. I work with individuals of all ages and life stages. There is no upper or lower age limit, though I find that pre-adolescent patients often do best with a family approach. What matters most is orientation toward the work.
How I work
We take time to understand what brings you to treatment, what you hope will change, and how your experiences may be affecting your life now. Visits are a full hour, scheduled at the frequency that makes sense for your life and your goals.
Psychotherapy is central to my practice, and I also prescribe medication when it can help. We’ll talk through what you hope treatment will change, your previous experiences, and any questions or concerns you have. I’m happy to work with you whether you take medication or prefer an approach without it. When medication is part of your care, we’ll follow its benefits and side effects together and revisit decisions as your needs change.
I also pay attention to sleep, physical health, and other factors that may be affecting how you feel.
I see patients at my office in Seal Harbor on Mount Desert Island, with telehealth available for patients throughout Maine. Early in treatment we may meet weekly or every two weeks. Over time the frequency is adjusted based on what makes sense for your care and your life.
If something here is landing for you, even if you're not yet sure what you're looking for, please reach out.
